What's your Coffee?

About The Coffee Coach

I love coffee and have been a cuppa guzzler since childhood. I refused to drink plain milk and that’s when my mom started adding coffee powder to make me lactose indulgent.

I have been an instant coffee drinker for 24 years of my life (I am 28 now). In the last four years, I thought of exploring a new way of drinking coffee, that I could brew up at home. I realised that if cafes could provide you with better tasting coffee than instant powder, then why not try it at home?

That’s when, without adult supervision, I dug out a 10-year-old coffee machine lying at home. That was the first step towards experimenting with coffee. Within a year, I got a newer coffee machine, but the hunt for coffee powder was still looming. Coffee powder was sourced from many trips abroad in whatever quantities that it could be carried back in.

But the hunger for knowledge didn’t cease, I would spend at least two hours everyday, reading about coffee, preparation techniques, raw material availability and equipment sourcing. Then I decided that I need to do a course of some sort to enhance my knowledge.

Researching on courses started, but sadly, there aren’t any for individuals in India. Hence came the idea of starting my own set of workshops and disbursing my knowledge for a nominal fee. I know a lot of people who are coffee drinkers and crave good bean-brew at home and office, but are either lazy or clueless on how to go about the same.

That’s where I come into the picture. I, the Coffee Coach, will guide you, answer your queries and give you all the details you need to make that great cuppa at home or in office. This thought also came about from Twitter. My handle on the microblogging website is @TheCoffeenazi and in the past two years, have hosted at least 70-80 people at home who have been the victims of my many coffee experiments. These people always have questions like what machines to buy, where to get coffee powder from and so on.

The plan is to take The Coffee Coach website (www.thecoffeecoach.in) and turn it into an online store for your coffee needs. Basic equipment, coffee powders (basic and gourmet), crockery, knick-knacks and so on. Eventually I plan to start a specialty Gourmet Café, which not only gives you good coffee from around the world but also educates you on the coffee you are having, its origins and so on.

Here’s to creating a coffee-drinking culture. Drink up.

Why Coffee Workshops?

The quest for good coffee at home or office is never ending. Coffee at home is usually restricted to instant coffee as it offers ease of preparation and preparation only, the question of aroma and flavor is a different debate altogether. Then there are coffee vending machines in offices, using either premix powder or using powder milk, either way, you end up going to the chai tapri to have the cutting chai even though you are a coffee lover (I did that, so I know).

So what will The Coffee Coach teach you?

  • A brief introduction to coffee
  • The basics of the types of beans
  • Coffee brewing – equipment, methods, tips & tricks.
  • Espresso – All about espresso and espresso preparations
  • The right grind size for different types of coffee brewing methods
